Voices Radio + Two Tribes > DJ Workshop Showcase

Last Friday, we held the first showcase night for the students of our recent DJ workshop series.

Held at the 'Behind the Bookcase' bar at The Star of Kings, the group were able to show off the skills they've learned to family, friends and the extended Two Tribes and Voices Radio community.

This workshop series kicked off in October 2022 and was hosted by the team at Voices Radio, facilitated by DJ/Producers Hemlin and Thempress, and sponsored by Two Tribes Brewery.

This first cohort of our DJ workshop series invited women, trans and non-binary people who have an interest in working in the music industry to have their first experience behind the decks.

They gained confidence over three months of tutorials - which culminated with their first live radio show in the Voices Radio studio, and their first gig on a stage.

We were so chuffed with the talent and tenacity everyone displayed behind the decks. HUGE congratulations to the amazing DJ's who participated in the our first workshop series: Kamara, Jenna, Tiffany, Claire/Ting Run Run, Feyi, Ixxi and Kamī!

But, now - round 2 is underway. And once again we're aiming to uplift, upskill and empower groups who have historically been under represented in the music industry.

This round is for aspiring DJ's who self-identify as being from working class backgrounds and/or have faced financial barriers while growing up.

This round of workshops will be facilitated by the incredibly talented DJ Priya over a series of 5 workshops.

Through the workshops, you'll learn the basics of DJing while connecting with others on a similar journey. You'll receive support and mentorship and have access to free studio space with equipment to practice.

You will be offered a radio takeover slot and the chance to play a live set at a Two Tribes partnered venue.
